Emahewu is one of the most popular meals in the kindom of Eswatini, from old ages till today. It is called Maize Meal Juice in English. It can be serve as a drink, snack and meal, Emaswati (Eswatini people) often drink eMahewu when working on the field mostly when planting and Harvesting. It also serve as a great snack after meal.

Recipe

Ingredients

·         2 cups Maize Meal

·         2 cups (500ml) Cold water

·         12 Cups (3L) Hot water

·         1 Cup of Sugar

·         2 tablespoons of cake wheat flour.(you must use malt instead of flour or Silatiso)

Method

1.       Mix Miaze meal and cold water together inside your pot .Mix until smooth.

2.       Place pot on high heat and then gradually add all the hot water while stirring.

3.       Once pot begins to boil close lid and reduce heat to low.

4.       Allow to simmer for 45 minutes stirring every 15 minutes.

5.       Remove from heat and allow cooling completely.

6.       Once completely cooled add your sugar and cake wheat flour or Silatiso, Stir until sugar is completely dissolved.

7.       Put in Airtight container and allow fermenting for 3 days.

8.       After fermentation refrigerate and serve chilled.
